Toll Free Fax Numbers in 844 Released

As of December 20, 2013, FAXAGE is offering toll free email fax numbers in the new 844 toll free area code.

Operating as its own Resporg (owner of toll free numbers) allows FAXAGE direct access to toll free numbering resources. This is advantageous for clients, as FAXAGE can quickly obtain and provision new numbers as demand dictates.

"It is in the public interest for the industry and consumers to have continued access to numbering resources, including toll free numbers. ... The Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) authorizes SMS/800, Inc. to open the 844 toll free code on December 7, 2013 at noon, Eastern Time." (FCC. July 31, 2013 Letter to SMS/800, Inc.)

Essentially, what the FCC is saying is that toll free numbers continue to be heavily utilized (mainly for business purposes) and that demand has continued to outstrip the supply provided by the existing 800, 888, 877, 866 and 855 toll free area codes. In response, the new 844 toll free area code was released for use.

What does this mean to me?

The release of the new 844 area code will help, not only with 844 numbers being available, but should also reduce the strain on existing codes (888, 877, 866 and 855) that were nearing exhaustion.
